MAS & MSAs

MAS & MSAs

Other than their homes, Muslim youth spend most of their time in one other place — schools. As our main target audience is youth, we aim to support, guide, and collaborate with Muslim students and Muslim student groups all over NYC, which includes Islamic schools, SJPs, MIST, and most commonly, MSAs. We seek to ensure Muslim students have everything they need to thrive as Muslims and become agents of change in their schools. If you’re an MSA, Muslim student or any other kind of Muslim student group who is interested in working with us, reach out to bk-youth@masnewyork.org! See below all the ways we aim to support Muslim students.

Content & Curricula

  • Many MSAs run consistent meetings in their schools where they provide Islamic education to Muslim students on a variety of topics. MAS shares event toolkits, guidance, and lesson plans with MSA leaders to help facilitate effective and spiritually driven events and lectures in their schools. Email bk-tarbiya@masnewyork.org for more information!

MAS Speakers

  • MSAs often have guest speakers in their schools, especially to give talks about nuanced topics in Islam such as Muslim Identity, mental health, and gender relations. To ensure these discussions are facilitated by experienced and skilled speakers, we suggest one of our MAS speakers attends MSA meetings or events to lead a discussion about a given topic. These speakers include our in-house imams, sheikhs, therapists, youth directors, spiritual mentors, and more. Email bk-tarbiya@masnewyork.org for more information!

Offering our Venue

  • We fully understand that MSAs don’t often have large budgets to book event spaces for their programs, and schools may not always have the capacity to host or accommodate MSA events. That’s why we offer our event hall spaces to MSAs and Muslim student organizations in partnerships that relieve this burden! We also work with MAS centers across the city, so MSAs have different venue options to choose from based on their needs. We’ve hosted Charity Week fundraisers, game nights, Ramadan iftars, and more! Fill out our hall rental form to inquire about the space!

Leadership Development

  • MSA board members and executive teams are teaching and mentoring the next generation of Muslim leaders. Sometimes, MSAs are the only interactions young Muslims have with an Islamic environment or Islamic education. So it’s important these leaders have all the faith-based leadership skills and foundational Islamic education necessary to develop young Muslim minds across the city. As an Islamic youth center, we are heavily invested in the development and support of young Muslim leaders and we offer training, mentorship opportunities, and guidance to such MSA leaders.

Community Service Opportunities

  • MSAs and Muslim-run student organizations often partake in community service projects as an opportunity to increase the habit of generosity and charity. We offer the chance for MSAs to give back to their communities through our center, whether it’s through one of our signature community service projects like our Many Meals Food Pantry or by collaborating with MSAs to come up with a new initiative.

Student Discounts

  • Students are on a budget, and we get that! That’s why we offer student group discounts for many of our programs and services including camps, classes, and events. We can also provide an exclusive discounts for MSAs that we partner with. Reach out to bk-youth@masnewyork.org if there is a program you’d like to partner with!
